The Blue Cougars

Cool Atmospheric and Haunting, the Blue Cougars offer a laid back Fifties “style” Retro Americana sound consisting of haunting ballads and Cool cruising mid-tempo numbers…..

The band play a truly unique style of music which is obviously influenced by the musical styles of Rockabilly and the fifities/sixties type ballad, the formula the guys use combines brushed snare rythms with stand up bass and mellow 50’s guitar accompanied by haunting echo clad vocals. Although the guys are heavily influenced by the 50’s and 60’s, within seconds of listening to their tunes it will become quite obvious that they have evolved a unique and tantalizing style all of there very own.

Influences…

Chris Isaak, Eddie Cochran, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, Rick Nelson, Elvis Presley, Marty Robbins, Del Shannon, Richie Valens, Ricky Valance, Bobby Vee, The Everly Brothers, The Crickets, Gene Vincent, Dion and the Belmonts to name but a few….

Musical style influences..

Rockabilly, Croon, Du-wop, Tex-Mex, Mexican, Hispanic……

If you like the styles of artists such as Ricky Nelson, Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison you will see that the Blue Cougars music is heavily influenced by these particular performers. Strong catchy melodies are a key feature however it is probably fair to say that the music created by Rene and Andy cannot be classed as bubble gum pop, as with artists such as Chris Isaak the guys focus heavily on haunting atmospheric style numbers so the cool factor is not jeopardised one little bit. Take songs such as “Wicked game” by Chris Isaaks or Donna by Richie Valens, yes these can be classed as pop however their haunting style’s enable them to attain a classic status that most people can appreciate.

If you like these songs you will probably like the Blue Cougars.. Johnny Remember me - John Leyton, The Orchard - Tiger Army, White Wedding - Billy Idol, Tell Laura I love her - Ricky Valance, Donna - Richie Valens, Be bop a Lula - Gene Vincent, His Latest flame - Elvis, Maybe Baby - Buddy Holly, Three Steps to Heaven - Eddie Cochran, Blue Hotel - Chris Isaaks, Poor Little Fool - Rick Nelson, Only the Lonely - Roy Orbison, Dream - The Every Brothers, Hats of to Larry - Del Shannon
